Wine: Marqués de Cáceres Rioja Crianza 2011
Herb roasted Lamb with Carrots, Brussels Sprouts, Red Baby Potatoes, and Onions, celebrated with a glass of Rioja. This combination was hearty, delicious and comforting. As recommended by the winemaker, I let the wine breathe for one hour and found it to be earthy, potently pleasant, tasting cherries and rich aromatic spices. Abv: 14.0%
The entire cork reads as:
“In water one sees one’s own face; but in wine one beholds the heart of another.”
Featured on a bottle of Old Vine Zinfandel (2013) made by Bogle Vineyards
I don’t know why the simple words on this cork just tugged at my heart strings. I imagine this is the kind of wine you would sip slowly (cautionary of the 14.5 % abv) holding it up to admire the dark ruby hues illuminate next to a crackling fire as you try to keep warm on a cold and rainy night. Is it the fire that warms you so or the wine that warms your soul?
